Seasonal Produce Update: April!

One of the best parts about living in the San Francisco Bay Area (or almost anywhere in California) is the fresh produce.

Produce in season (and preferably from local farms) tastes better than anything I grew up on in Chicago.

Right now, here’s what tastes the best:

  • arugula
  • artichokes are back!! Best served with what Charles and I used to call “fat sauce”.
  • Asian greens
  • asparagus
  • beets
  • bok choy
  • broccoli
  • cabbage
  • carrots
  • cauliflower
  • celery is back!
  • chard
  • collards
  • favabeans fava beans (we only get four months of these)
  • fennel
  • garlic
  • grapefruit (last month!)
  • kale
  • kiwi
  • kumquats (last month!)
  • leeks
  • lettuces
  • mushrooms
  • onions
  • oranges
  • peas the peas are here!
  • last month for pomelos
  • radish
  • spinach
  • w00t! STRAWBERRY season begins NOW!
  • tangerines


P.S. Fruits and vegetables in season are also less expensive (since they’re not being shipped from Latin America).
