Seasonal Produce Update: November

One of the best parts about living in the San Francisco Bay Area (or almost anywhere in California) is the fresh produce.

Produce in season (and preferably from local farms) tastes better than anything I grew up on in Chicago.

Right now, here’s what tastes the best:

  • apples
  • artichokes
  • arugula
  • Asian greens
  • Asian pears (last month for these babies!)
  • avocados
  • beets
  • bok choy
  • broccoli
  • Brussels sprouts
  • cabbage
  • carrots
  • cauliflower
  • celery
  • chard
  • collards
  • corn (last month for these guys too)
  • cucumber (last month)
  • fennel
  • figs (last month!)
  • garlic
  • grapefruit
  • grapes
  • kale
  • kiwi
  • kumquats
  • leeks
  • lemons
  • lettuces
  • mandarins are here!!!
  • mushrooms
  • okra (last month!)
  • onions
  • oranges come into season now!
  • parsnips
  • pears
  • peppers, bell
  • persimmons
  • pomegranates
  • say HELLO to pomelos!
  • potatoes (end of season)
  • radish
  • spinach
  • squash, summer (end of season)
  • squash, winter
  • sweet potatoes
  • tangerines are here!
  • tomatoes (end of season)

P.S. Fruits and vegetables in season are also less expensive (since they’re not being shipped from Latin America).

I’ve always enjoyed brussel sprouts. But now that I see how they grow I will enjoy them even more the next time I eat them. Thanks SFLovestory!

Thanks for the info. Some of this is really surprising. For example, I had no idea that kiwi was a fruit from this time of year. What a great list of options we have!
